Diversity . Unity . Wisdom

We can help each other flourish and change the experiences families have during some of the most intimate moments in their lives!
Sage Dragonfly Midwifery is hosting a week of learning and connection for student midwives, birth assistants, those exploring birth work, and all who need their cups filled.

“I go to Nature to be soothed and healed and to have my senses in order”- John Burroughs; This Birth Retreat will fill your brain by day and your soul by night.

A Birth Assistant Retreat is coming up very quickly! Final plans are in full swing as we are preparing to help fill your soul with intuitive connections and wise learning.

The retreat will be held on a beautiful piece of land with an original homestead that has been updated. The house has plenty of space with amenities and a plentiful amount of restrooms, a kitchen and spaces to retreat to if a participant needs some alone space.

This will be an opportunity for future birth workers to have their first experience with midwifery, sitting in a sacred space with an educational foundation of respecting autonomy, intuition, and the body’s natural physiological and innate ability to birth.

Just as the midwifery model and medical model of care differ, so do our tools and teaching methods. You will have an opportunity to learn wisdom passed down from elders and ancient wisdom from our ancestors in combination with modern information and tools.
Gifted teachers have been chosen for their blend of confidence and humility, experience, and their ability to balance science and intuitive knowing. They are working hard to create a curriculum specifically for the birth culture in Nebraska and the obstacles we face here, with emphasis on serving rural areas with little resources. A comprehensive list of skills and topics covered will be shared soon.

Date and time are August 1st-6th, 8:30am-5:30pm with breaks, nourishing food and drinks as well as space held to decompress and process the skills and information you learn. This session will include at least 40 hours (or more) of instruction and hands-on skills practice.
Breakfast, snacks and lunch will be provided- evening meals are the responsibility of participants. There will be a full kitchen available to use so feel free to bring anything extra you would like, we just ask you to tidy up after yourself. Dietary considerations will be asked on the sign up form and there will be options to meet all participants needs.
Sunday morning the 7th will be a brief time to hold space, share stories and ask questions as well as say our goodbyes for those interested or you can choose to say goodbye Saturday.

Lodging is not included in the retreat fee and is the responsibility of the participant to arrange. There will be options for people to bring tents or campers to stay on the property, as well as hotels and lodging 20 minutes away. Grand Island is around 20 minutes with stores, food options and lodging. We will share a list of available lodging options soon to make that easy for anyone unfamiliar with the area.

There will be planned evening activities including sacred stories shared, campfires, journal writing, singing and dancing as we feel led, soaking in breathtaking Nebraska sunsets, team building strategies and an opportunity to foster relationships between birth workers in Nebraska.

We are gathering people, supplies, and positive energy as the hosts from Sage Dragonfly Midwifery finalize these details. Soon we will have a list of topics and skills that will be covered and taught to participants.

*There are no CEUs available for this training.
Completion of this will set birth workers up to be able to serve in an assistant capacity at births. This retreat will be entry level and start with the foundations of autonomy, traditional midwifery skills, working on citizen autonomy and team building skills. Coming next year will be a more in depth retreat for primary midwifery students and advanced practice skills.

When you register we ask for a short bio and a little bit about yourself as it will let us get to know you, feel connected and help us foster each person’s learning style and background. We also can’t wait to meet you in person!

We’ve tried to foresee everything you would need so your time is relaxing and enjoyable while we sit in this sacred space and learn. There will be an abundance of information and skills so we are being mindful about time to process and not overwhelm participants. Supplies, placentas, pregnant models and most things needed will be provided as well as a beautiful space. If you are able to bring equipment of your own such as stethoscopes, blood
pressure cuffs, or any expired supplies for sutures, fluids etc. please do so. We will have equipment provided as well.

We will be there to learn from each other, on all levels as peers while we hold space and give support to those just entering this work.

NRP is tentatively planned to be offered in September, depending on availability of the facilitator/hosts. This will be finalized soon with cost, date and instructor. The cost for this course and certification will be separate from the retreat cost. By participating you will become Neonatal Resuscitation Certified and meet AAP and NRP standards. We are carefully choosing a facilitator who will guide and teach the course towards out of hospital birth providers. Will email details when this is finalized.

The retreat will be held near Doniphan- once registration is filled out and payments are made more details with directions, lodging etc will be shared:

We realize this is not a lot of time to plan but we felt very compelled to provide this as soon as we were able. Please do not be discouraged if you cannot make these dates work- there will be many more opportunities! Our hope is to get competent, trained birth teams and support for families choosing out of hospital birth.

“You take two bodies and you twirl them into one– Their hearts and their bones and they won't come undone.” Paul Simon
We know a thing or two about women/people’s bodies and their capacity to do what it takes to birth babies. We also know a thing or two about their hearts. The experiences at Sacred Sage Birth Retreat will acknowledge our hearts and the hearts of those we serve. They won’t come undone.
