The LA Art Box is proud to partner with Filipino American creator and filmmaker Kristian Kabuay for the 1st Southern California screening of his new documentary, Lupa.

Lupa means soil, land, or earth in Tagalog. Lupa is a short film that captures stories from Filipino Americans about their experience with land ownership in the Philippines. Audio recordings of these stories will float in and out with footage of various locations in the Philippines. Growing up, Kristian would hear family stories about some land that his family owned back home. It was typically drama-filled, revolving around land deeds, patriarchy, and old grudges.

With this project, Kristian hopes that it sparks these often difficult conversations within diaspora communities. Kristian directed, edited, and composed all the music. The LA Art Box partnered with Kristian to executive produce this film.
