For inventors who are ready to share their work, this option provides registration for the 2027 NextGen Inventor Awards, taking place in March 2027.

The NextGen Inventor Awards celebrate young innovators and their creativity, problem-solving, and inventive thinking. Inventors will have the opportunity to submit their invention and showcase the work they have developed.

This registration option is ideal for inventors who:

• Have already developed an invention or prototype
• Are ready to showcase their work
• Want to participate in the March 2027 Awards
• Are not enrolling in another Invention Academy course

Explore the intersection of invention, technology, and app development.

Grades 5–10 |

Have an invention idea that could come to life through an app or digital tool? App-Ventures in Inventing introduces young inventors to the process of thinking about technology as part of an invention.

With rolling enrollment, inventors can join at any time and work through the course at their own pace. Through guided activities, inventors will explore how apps can solve problems, support users, and become part of a larger invention.

Inventors will:

• Explore problems that could be addressed through an app
• Develop and refine app-based invention ideas
• Think about users, features, and functionality
• Create plans and designs for their digital invention
• Explore the connection between technology, creativity, and entrepreneurship
• Develop an idea from a problem into a potential app-based solution

No previous app-development experience is required.

NextGen Inventor Awards

All Invention Academy courses include registration for the 2027 NextGen Inventor Awards in March 2027. Inventors can develop their app-based invention throughout the course and have the opportunity to submit their work for the Awards.

Grades 1- 12 | 

The Invention Academy Asynchronous Invention Course gives young inventors the flexibility to explore, develop, and refine an invention on their own schedule. With rolling enrollment, inventors can join at any time and move through the experience at a pace that works for them.

Through a series of guided invention challenges and activities, inventors will move through the invention process—from identifying a problem and developing an idea to designing, building, testing, and improving a prototype.

This course is a great option for inventors who:

• Want to work independently and at their own pace
• Are new to invention or continuing to develop an existing idea
• Need a flexible option that works around school and other activities
• Want to prepare an invention for a future showcase or competition

Turn your invention idea into a detailed digital design.

Grades 5–10 | Bring Your Invention to the Next Level!

Do you have an invention that you're ready to take to the next level? In this hands-on virtual course, inventors in grades 5–10 will learn how to use Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create detailed digital models of their own inventions.

Inventors should come to the course with an existing invention idea or project that they are excited to develop further. Throughout the course, students will apply their CAD skills directly to their inventions, learning how to create, modify, and refine digital designs while thinking critically about the structure, function, and feasibility of their ideas.

Designed for inventors who are ready to move beyond basic sketches, this course will introduce students to digital design tools that can help them visualize, communicate, and improve their inventions.

Inventors will:

• Learn foundational CAD skills and digital design techniques.
• Create a digital model of their own invention.
• Explore dimensions, components, and design details.
• Revise and refine their designs based on testing and feedback.
• Develop digital design skills that can support prototyping and future invention projects.

Who should enroll? Inventors in grades 5–10 who already have an invention idea or project and are excited to explore how CAD can help them develop, improve, and bring their ideas to life!

NextGen Inventor Awards

All Invention Academy courses include registration for the 2027 NextGen Inventor Awards in March 2027. Inventors can use their developing invention and CAD work as they prepare to showcase their innovation.

Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays at 7:00 PM
Format: Live virtual instruction and office hours

Grades 3–12 | 

The Invention Academy Monthly Lecture Series provides inventors with opportunities to develop the skills they need to take their inventions—and their entrepreneurial thinking—to the next level.

Beginning in November 2026, each monthly session will focus on a specific topic designed to help young inventors better understand the world beyond the prototype. Topics will include practical strategies for improving an invention, communicating an idea, exploring entrepreneurship, and developing the skills needed to bring an idea into the world.

Sessions may include guest experts, demonstrations, conversations, and opportunities for inventors to ask questions and apply what they are learning to their own projects.

Potential topics include:

• Improving and refining your invention
• Intellectual property and patents
• Pitching and communicating your idea
• Entrepreneurship and business basics
• Design and user feedback
• Marketing your invention
• Building a strong inventor story
• Taking an invention from prototype to next steps

NextGen Inventor Awards

All Invention Academy courses include registration for the 2027 NextGen Inventor Awards in March 2027. The Monthly Lecture Series will provide inventors with additional skills and knowledge they can apply as they prepare their submissions.

Kicks Off: November 2026
Format: Virtual monthly session, runs for 4 months (excluding December)
Designed For: Young inventors at various stages of the invention process

A community for Massachusetts inventors ready to take their ideas further.

Grades 5–10 | 

The Invention Academy Independent Inventors program gives young innovators the opportunity to continue developing their inventions alongside a community of fellow inventors.

Beginning in January 2027, Massachusetts inventors will meet weekly for guided instruction, invention development, feedback, and opportunities to connect with other young innovators. Inventors will have the opportunity to continue refining their ideas, strengthening their prototypes, and preparing for future invention opportunities and competitions.

The program is designed for inventors who already have experience with the invention process and are ready to continue building their skills and developing an invention.

Inventors will work on:

• Developing and improving an existing invention
• Prototyping, testing, and iteration
• Design and problem-solving
• Communicating and presenting an invention
• Building inventor confidence and independence
• Exploring entrepreneurship and future pathways

NextGen Inventor Awards

All Invention Academy courses include registration for the 2027 NextGen Inventor Awards in March 2027. Connecticut inventors will have the opportunity to submit their work and showcase their innovation as part of the Awards.

Program Begins: January 2027 - runs for 9 weeks
Meeting Day: Tuesdays at 7:30PM EST
Format: Live instruction and inventor community

Grades 3–10 | 

The Invention Academy Independent Inventors program gives Connecticut inventors the opportunity to continue developing their ideas within a supportive community of young innovators.

Beginning in January 2027, inventors will meet weekly to work through advanced invention experiences, receive feedback, strengthen their prototypes, and develop the skills needed to communicate and bring their ideas forward.

This program is designed for inventors who have previous invention experience and are ready to take greater ownership of their invention journey.

Inventors will explore:

• Advanced invention development
• Prototyping, testing, and iteration
• Design thinking and problem-solving
• Communicating and pitching an invention
• Entrepreneurship and innovation
• Opportunities to share and showcase their work

Connect. Create. Invent. Change the world.

The Invention Academy Global Independent Inventors program brings together young innovators from around the world who are ready to continue developing their inventions and growing as problem-solvers.

Beginning in January 2027, global inventors will meet weekly in a virtual community where they can develop their inventions, exchange ideas with inventors from different cultures and backgrounds, and receive guidance as they move through the invention process.

Inventors will have opportunities to:

• Continue developing and refining an invention
• Test ideas and improve prototypes
• Learn from other young innovators around the world
• Strengthen invention communication and presentation skills
• Explore entrepreneurship and innovation
• Connect their inventions to real-world problems and opportunities

This program is designed for inventors who have previous experience with invention and are ready for a more independent and collaborative invention experience.

NextGen Inventor Awards

All Invention Academy courses include registration for the 2027 NextGen Inventor Awards in March 2027. Global inventors will have the opportunity to share their work with an international community and submit their invention for the Awards.
